ksnapshot has a time delay feature, I presume it's Gnome version would have one too so you could just use that to get the shot of your open start menu

yeah ksnapshot is what i use most of the time if i want to catch things i can't do by typing 'import screenshot.jpg'
in MS office, you want to select the "Always show full menu" options (which is on by default in office 12 and onward). Right click on the toolbar, and select customize. In the customize dialog, pick the Options tab. You may find the "Always show full menus" options is not selected. Check it. Your menus will stop hiding stuff.

but how do you change the setting for the "start => Programs" hiding everything?
