You put this together too soon. Steve Yegge just posted one of the greatest blog posts ever.
I have to say, I disagree. For me Good Agile, Bad Agile is a far better post than yesterdays one (Parabola [1]), which given the lack of a URL is what I presume you're referring to.

Good post Des, looks like you've sieved some nice reading material. Must find time to read a few of em.
How can you say that DHHs response to Joel (who you clearly adore) was terrible. He owned the guy and ate his lunch!!! Joel is using a custom built language FFS.
Why is it the dickheads always post as anonymous
DHHs response to Joels criticism of Rails was to saying that he is displaying Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD). All three of those emotions are perfectly valid reactions to any significant change, in software or otherwise. The way to tackle them isn't to shout FUD, it is to educate the person so that the uncertainty and doubt are removed, which will hopefullly also remove the fear. For me, the FUD post showed one of 2 possibilities 1) DHH just wasn't bothered explaining why Joel was wrong, which is frustrating because many product managers around the world will, correctly, displaying FUD when their codes ask to move to Rails. or 2) DHH didn't have much of a retort to some of the arguments, and decided to let them pass I'm not considering the option that he was too busy, cause he wrote 2 fairly long posts about this, surely in one of them he could have contained an argument against Joel. Also, yes, Joel uses a custom built language. DHH uses a custom built framework. Joel ripped his language from the heart of FogBugz to speed up development time. DHH ripped his framework from the heart of BaseCamp to speed up development time. Whats the issue here?, Frameworks are coolio to custom build , but Languages aren't? That'd be a fair point, except I am guessing that you have fuck all experience of either, so you're probably not in a position to comment. Don't assume that just because Wasabi isn't public it is therefore shameful and unmaintainable. Current mood: Hungover
